For supporters
Everything about holding a key: accepting, every status you see for them, the decision to end protection, and what follows a yes.
Questions
What am I agreeing to as a keyholder?
One thing above all: if the person you hold for asks to end protection, the request reaches you and you answer it.
Read the full answerHow do I accept the key?
Open the link they shared in the Fold’em app and tap Hold the key.
- Where the ask comes from
- Your account, and what it costs
- Accepting, end to end
- What happens right after
What can I see about them?
One list per person, and it is the whole of it: eleven things, five of them for the person holding the key.
- The list, and it is the whole list
- Where each fact reaches you
- What never crosses at all
- Reading their row
What does each status on their card mean?
Their row on People carries one of five words about their protection: Protection on, Not confirmed yet, Protection at risk, Protection off and Protection ended.
- One word, and the row is built from it
- The five words
- The other lines a row can carry
- What this does not do
They asked to end protection. What can I do?
You can say no, from anywhere, and that is the whole of what you can do alone.
- How the request reaches you
- The two answers, and their consequences
- What an approval starts
- Deciding, step by step
What happens if I do nothing?
The request closes, and nothing opens.
- The rule, exactly
- Why silence closes rather than opens
- What your app shows while the clock runs
- If the seven days already ran out
I have been asked to take over as keyholder
A handover can no longer be started in Fold’em 3.0, so this only happens when someone began one in an earlier version, and it runs to its end.
- A handover has two consents and two clocks
- What you are being asked, exactly
- What the outgoing keyholder sees
- Answering a change request
Can I step away?
Yes, in the app, at any time, and it is better than holding a key and not answering.
- Two different events with one name
- Why it takes a confirmation
- Three moments it will refuse
- Stepping away
Am I responsible if they gamble anyway?
I lost the invite link, or I am signed out
It depends on whether you had accepted. Before that, the invite is a link, a code or a QR they shared, and none of them is precious: ask them to share it again. After you accept, nothing is issued to you that could be lost. Your access is your Fold’em account, so a wiped or replaced phone costs you a sign in and nothing else.
- Before you accept: it is a link, a code or a QR
- After you accept: your access is your account
- Getting back in
- What this does not do
I did not get the invite
Because Fold’em did not send one.
Read the full answerWhy does my card look out of date?
Their row is not a copy that has to be refreshed. People keeps what the server holds for you about them up to date while your phone is online, and when it is older than six hours, or you are offline, a line under their row says Up to date as of and the time. Offline, People also says so at the top. What can lag is their phone, not your row: a status word is only as current as the last report their phone sent.
- What you are reading, and where it comes from
- The part that can lag is their phone
- The moments that matter do not wait
- If you need to know right now
Can I change which updates I get?
I am a supporter without the key. What is different?
You hold no key, so no request to end protection reaches you and there is nothing for you to approve or refuse.
