Ending protection
The request to end protection, the wait, the decision, and who actually opens the apps.
Questions
How do I ask to end protection?
You ask inside the app, from Settings, Your protection, End protection, and the request is written to Fold’em’s server rather than to a switch on your phone.
- Ending protection is a request, not a switch
- What happens after you ask
- Asking, and watching it run
- If they say no
What does my keyholder decide?
They say no, or they agree by showing you a code.
- Two decisions, and they are not symmetrical
- Silence closes the request
- What their agreement starts
- What your keyholder cannot do
How do I end protection with no keyholder?
With nobody holding your key there is nobody to ask, so there is no decision step. The server writes the request down and a wait of seven days starts from that instant. The wait is the whole of the friction: it runs on the server, your phone cannot shorten it, and every app and site you sealed stays sealed for its entire length. At the end the request is ready, it waits seven days for you, and your protection ends only when you choose to end it.
- What counts as having no keyholder
- The wait is the whole of it
- Asking, with nobody holding the key
- What this does not do
Can I cancel a request to end protection?
Yes, and at every stage: while your keyholder is deciding, while the wait counts down, and after the wait is over but before you end protection.
- Three stages, and you can stop at all three
- What the confirmation says
- Withdrawing, step by step
- If it cannot reach the server
Why does protection not end by itself?
Because the last step is a choice, not a clock.
- The end of the wait is an offer
- Taking it, and what taking it does
- The one thing that ends protection on its own
- What this does not do
Why can I not invite while my request is open?
Because somebody joining your circle and an open request to end protection make each other into lies.
- Why the two cannot both be open
- Two blocks, two different shapes
- Calling the invitation off
- What you see, and what to do
How do I turn the deletion delay off?
You start a wait, and then you wait 72 hours.
- What the delay is holding
- A release is a wait, not a switch
- Keeping the delay on
- Asking for the release, step by step
Who actually ends protection?
Fold’em’s server does, and the phone never decides a release.
- The split, in one line
- What the server owns
- Why a number on the screen ends nothing
- What that looks like at the one moment it matters
