How do I end protection with no keyholder?

With nobody holding your key there is nobody to ask, so there is no decision step. The server writes the request down and a wait of seven days starts from that instant. The wait is the whole of the friction: it runs on the server, your phone cannot shorten it, and every app and site you sealed stays sealed for its entire length. At the end the request is ready, it waits seven days for you, and your protection ends only when you choose to end it.

What counts as having no keyholder

It is not a mode you switch on. It is simply the state of having nobody who has accepted your key, and the server decides that at the moment your request lands rather than from anything stored on the phone. Three situations all read the same way: nobody has accepted your key yet, you removed your keyholder, or they stepped away. While an invitation from before Fold’em 3.0 is still out the request is refused, and the End protection page shows it with Call off the invite in place of the hold.

Supporters who do not hold the key do not change it. They see status and never hold the key, so somebody with three supporters and no keyholder has no keyholder for the purposes of ending protection.

Removing a keyholder takes effect at once. The moment they are gone, this is the road you are on, and nothing is written onto your account for having removed them. The same is true if they step away themselves.

The wait is the whole of it

With nobody to ask, there is no decision step to run. The server opens the request, sees no accepted keyholder, and marks a wait of seven days counted from that moment. The page says so in its own words: You will wait 7 days, and Nothing changes until the wait is over.

Those seven days are not negotiable from the phone. The deadline is stamped by the server, the count on your screen is a reading of that stamp, and turning the phone off, changing its clock or reinstalling the app moves none of it. Every app you blocked stays blocked, every site stays blocked, and the deletion delay stays exactly as you set it, for the whole seven days.

A keyholder who never answers does not put you on this road. Their silence closes the request after seven days and your protection carries on, so waiting somebody out is not a slower version of this: it is not a version of it at all.

The tiles are still faintly visible underneath, because the app is covered and not deleted. YOU OPEN A BLOCKED APP A betting app you blocked You set this to stay closed. Asking, with nobody holding the key

  1. Settings, then Your protection

The door is a row called End protection, drawn in red. It is there whoever holds your key; with nobody holding it, it reads 7 days from your request and opens the seven day path.

  2. The form states the seven days before you commit

It names the wait in front of you so the number is not a surprise afterwards, Keep protection is the filled button, and sending is a hold rather than a tap: Hold to start the 7 day wait. Once the request exists, the position you are shown comes from the server's own record, so the words on your screen are the server's answer and not the phone's guess.

  3. Nothing moves while it counts

Today carries a card naming when the request will be ready, Ready and a day. What is blocked is unchanged for the whole seven days, which is the point of the wait rather than a side effect of it.

  4. End protection at the end, or let it close

When the wait finishes the card reads Ready when you are, and the request is held for seven days. Ending protection then is your own act, with a hold. Leaving it lets the request close, and your protection carries on as though you had never asked.

What this does not do

Having no keyholder does not make the block weaker, and it does not change what is blocked, on this phone or any other: it is only the answer to who is asked. Inviting somebody in the middle of an open request is refused rather than allowed, so a keyholder cannot be added while one is running. And none of this touches your gambling free count, which runs from your last bet and is moved by nothing but your own admission.
