What are milestones?

A milestone is a day count the server marks once and tells your keyholder about. There are three of them on the server side, at 7, 30 and 90 days of the current term, and each fires once per term. Your keyholder gets one short email and their Wallet pass gains a Milestone row and a fuller moon. Fold'em sends you nothing on the day: the in app ladder is somewhere you go and look, not something that interrupts you.

The three the server marks

A daily sweep on the server counts the days elapsed on your current term and, on the first day each of 7, 30 and 90 is reached or passed, writes one marker. The marker is created with a write that either succeeds or finds one already there, so a milestone can never be marked twice however many times the sweep runs.

The marker owes exactly two things. It records a milestone in your account's event feed, and it owes your keyholder one email, which a delivery worker sends and retries on its own schedule. That email carries the day number and nothing else about you: no app names, no sites, no amounts. It reads as one line about the marker and one line asking your keyholder for a word.

These rungs belong to the term. Starting a new term starts the count again from that term's own start date, so the day 7 email that arrives a week into a fresh term is not an error.

    The pass gains a Milestone row carrying the latest rung you reached, beside the day count it already showed. The row steps from 7 to 30 to 90 and then stays, rather than appearing for a day and vanishing, because a keyholder who opens their card in week six should still find the explanation for what they are looking at. The moon in the card's night strip fills as you travel between rungs, and once you pass the last one it stays full.

Your own ladder goes further

Inside the app, Your progress carries a Milestones list with five rungs, at 7, 30, 90, 180 and 365 days, and then one more that has no number and never reads as reached. Each rung shows the date you reached it, or how many days away it is.

That ladder is measured on your gambling free run rather than on the current term, which is why it can show rungs a fixed term is too short to contain. A 90 day term does not put a ceiling on how long you stay gambling free, and hiding the one year rung from a person on a short term would say that it did.

Nothing arrives on your phone

Fold'em used to push you a notification on a milestone day. That was removed, end to end, and nothing replaced it: there is no milestone notification kind left in the app or on the server. Reaching a rung is something you find when you look, which is a deliberate choice about who a milestone is for.

Your keyholder's email is separate from that and still ships. If you would rather they were not told, Settings carries a group called What your keyholder is told with a Milestones switch in it, and that switch is the single owner of the decision: turning it off stops the email, stops the row on their pass and stops the entry in their feed. Your keyholder has no control of their own over it, and changing an alert setting is itself reported to them.

What this does not do

A milestone changes nothing about enforcement. It does not shorten a term, unlock anything, end a wait, or count toward an exit. It is not a term completion either: day 90 can arrive on a term with months left to run, and the two events are unrelated. And because the server counts wall clock days on the term, a milestone is a statement about time elapsed, not a claim that no bet was placed anywhere.
